A World of Love

For the past week, I've been hearing about Choosing Thomas -- have you heard about this? -- a family chose to give birth to their son, even though they knew he had a fatal illness. They didn't know how long he would survive outside of the womb, how long they would have to love him or cuddle him. They said, "We could have 11 minutes or 11 days."

I just finished watching their story. It was so poignant. They remarked that their son, Thomas, would never know the hurts of this world. He'd only know that for the extent of his life, he was loved. And that he was loved well.

I admire this family, their devotion to their son. I can't imagine allowing such raw emotion to be filmed. But at the same time, what a gift to have his life documented. I hope you'll take a few moments to watch the video.

(A word to the wise: keep tissues handy.)

I admire their strength. I really believe our children are gifts, no matter the time we're able to share with them. V. touching.

How did you do watching this, Jes? I sobbed out loud and it was all I could do to keep myself from going into Ruby's room and scooping her little, sleeping body into my arms. I just kept thinking, praise God for this couple's courage and I'm so thankful baby Thomas is being cradled in our Savior's arms.

Seriously... pregnancy hormones plus a happy baby story makes me ball... but this... the flood gates are open. Thank you for sharing though. This couple is amazing and I'd like to think I'd have their strength too. God bless them!!!

Thank you so much for posting this. The strength of that mom and dad is awe-inspiring. I reposted and borrowed your image with a credit, but let me know if you'd prefer me to either nix the image or remove the link to your blog.

Oh my goodness... Wow. Now that I've dried my eyes and gone through about 4 paper towels and taken a deep breath I can think about this some more. Those parents are awesome. They are so brave and I think it's wonderful that they did this for their son. What an amazing ordeal. So, so sad and heart wrenching. I'm so happy they are expecting a healthy baby girl now. It takes a slight edge off of the sadness. Thank you for sharing it with us.

Wow. I'm at a loss for words. Just. Wow. I want to go hug Zane right this instant, sleeping or not. Thanks for sharing that.

It amazes me how some people are so strong and determined to see the positive in every situation, even one like this.

PS: Congratulations! I hope she can come home today and you get some rest.
