The Truth About Hotel Drinking Glasses
December 05, 2007
Before you pick up that hotel drinking glass, let me warn you: It may
not be as clean as you assume it is.
After watching this video, I think I'm going to have to ask Santa for
some lightweight travel cups.

Wow. Well...as a person who travels pretty frequently, I now feel ill.
I'm asking for this for Christmas:

Holy porcha! I've done exactly what that video showed: poured myself a drink from the containter into the glass. I would have been better off to use my container! That's it - I'm never using an upwrapped glass in a hotel again. Thanks for the expose, Chirky.

I hadn't seen this before, but my family only uses the plastic cups (like they show at the end) that are pre-packaged. This just reinforces my practice of doing this. Yuck!
I've always wondered how they wash those cups. A friend's mom worked at a hotel and I asked if they carry extra glass cups to restock, as I'd never seen them on the carts before (whenever I had seen housekeeping in the halls). She looked surprise and said that they didn't. I didn't ask what they did with them after that: I really didn't want to know. Now I do. *shudders*
I'm sticking with my family's policy. It may not be environmentally green but it sure beats being vomitously green.

That.makes.me.hurl.

I got this by e-mail yesterday and seriously wanted to throw up thinking of all the times I've used a hotel glass to take a pill or whatever. GROSS!!! I agree, some travel cups are probably the way to go. Maybe I can hit up the container store sometime - I'm sure they have something like that so when I travel for work, I always have another option. YUCK!

That. is. nasty.
We don't travel that often, but this is so good to know. BUT, yet another thing to worry about (the remote, the bedspreads, the floor...). And old professor of mine told us once that she always wears flip flops in her hotel room and puts the remote in a plastic baggie and uses it that way.
Maybe I'll just camp-out the next time I need to go somewhere!

Yuck. And I've used hotel glasses. I don't think I will anymore.

Blake showed me this video the other night. It's amazing what some places will do to save a dime. It makes me wonder what other shortcuts are taken....

I used to use the hotel drinking glasses.
I still travel a lot, but won't be using them anymore. Thanks!

That is so disgusting! I don't know why I ever assumed they would be really clean, but I did. I won't make that mistake again.

Sick! I always thought that those glasses were brought into the room fresh from the dishwasher! Grody!

What's wrong with the video? I thought you were supposed to use glass cleaner to clean glasses. And personally, I would hane rinsed them in the toilet - better for the environment. Hey Jes, are we still getting together for dinner this weekend?

I saw either this same thing or a similar one on TV recently and it really is gross! I like Holiday Inns - they all give you wrapped plastic cups that are disposable!

I actually have to stay in a hotel in 2 days.
Thank you for saving my life.

That is totally disgusting. I always make the mistake of assuming other people are as clean as I am but apparently that isn't the case.
Particularly enjoyable was the woman cleaning the glasses with the same hand she had just used in the toilet. Yum!

What I love love LOVE about this is that most of the hotels are clients of mine. . .hilarious - in a gross way :)

Now I don't feel so bad about staying in the cheap hotels where they give you plastic cups sealed in plastic wrap.
