Shopping Usually Helps

May 09, 2007

The last time I checked my BlogLines feed reader, I had 166 entries waiting in my "Daily Reads" category. That number is a little overwhelming, obviously, so I shut the window, go back to work, and several minutes later check the site again just to see whether the number has changed. (It has, there are now 168, and part of me is beginning to think that I could make reading blogs into a full time job.)

Meanwhile, I'm staring blankly at my keyboard, willing the words to type themselves, contemplating the source of my writer's block, which I totally don't get, by the way. I mean: my dentist doesn't have dentist's block. My tailor doesn't have tailor's block. My cab driver doesn't have cab driver's block. (Fine, I don't have a regular cab driver, or even take regular cab rides, but if I did I'm certain he wouldn't have blocks. Unless they were road blocks, which the cab driver couldn't really control, now could he?)

I don't know about you, but when I'm feeling down, and like my life is a little too boring, I love to shop. I've tried, believe me, and have new clothes to show for it, but this time shopping hasn't helped my writer's block (or my boredom). Oddly, this makes sense to me, since my writing is in the virtual world and my new skirt is in the very real world. Ergo, I'm trying something new: a virtual makeover. (Thanks to Jenny at MamaDrama for the idea!)

I've been toying around with the idea of doing something new with my hair anyway, and this is where you come in: which style do you like on me the best?

(To view styles, click the link below).

The first is my normal 'do, which: blah. I'm so over it.

If only I weren't lazy, I'd love this. It just seems like it would be too high maintenance for my taste.

I kind of like the idea of going short:

Channeling Halle Berry:

Meh:

May love:

Red? Also, guess the celebrity who sports this style:

Blonde has never been my thing:

And just for posterity:

I LOVE number 4! Did you do that at ivillage? I did that awhile back and used the teeth whitening tool and almost cried at how gorgeous I look with bright shiny teeth!

2

Number 1, 3, and 4 are OK 4 you. Add highlights too on your brunette ^o^. Cool..!!

3

Okay, you actually look hot bald. Seriously.

4

Blond may not be your color (although, actually, it's not bad), but I like that cut on your face.

My votes go to 4, 5, and 6.

5

I love #4!

6

Four or five....definately four or five!!

7

I'm with #4. That's the "may love" one right? You didn't number them so I don't know if you are considering the status quo to be #1.

8

Are you holding a monkey in that picture???

9

HAHA! I actually like the cut of the blonde one! Or the one you already have which doesn't really fit your purpose of this post.

What about a site makeover? When I am feeling a block and I want to give my readers something new, I do a redesign!

10

Did I miss the numbers? I counted down through the pictures, but if that's how everyone's labelling them, it looks like someone suggested for you the look you appropriately gave a "Meh" to, and that can't be right.

Can I just say I noticed you gave yourself a little lipstick in that one and it totally fit the look (which wasn't a good one, by the way -- too Roseanne Barr's sister or friend or someone who was in that show forever ago).

That's totally Famke Janssen's hair in the "Red?" picture, right?

The bald picture looks a little too real. And I have to agree with everyone that you pull it off very well.

Still, though, I'd have to go with the "May love" picture. That's such a cute, fun style!

11

What a cute monkey!

And also, #4, if that's the "may love" one. It's cute, and looks like it wouldn't be too much maintenance.

12

I want a monkey!

13

Well, I'm with most people in that, of all those pictures, the May Love one looks best.

However. I honestly like your normal "do". Why not just get it freshened up a bit? A couple inches off, maybe some long layers, some side swept bangs.

Also, I think you should work with the curls and not try to fight them by going straight. That means more product, more chemicals, more heat and blow drying, etc. Once it's short and then if it gets damaged, it'll be a pain in the rear to grow back out again. You have beautiful long curly hair. Why go so drastic?

I should talk. I had verrrry long hair and gradually cut it up to my shoulders in a cute flippy bob. But then there were the highlights, and then the coloring, and all that. So when I finally decided to grow it out, I had all these fried ends and highlights that had to grow out first and it has taken forever to grow back again. Now that it's back to my natural color, I'm not coloring it any more! (At least, not for awhile, hehe.) Plus, my hair has been getting more and more curly every year. I used to fight it, but now I embrace it and just scrunch 'n go, unless I'm feeling like sexy = straight(er).

Oh well. That's my two cents. I think it'll look great no matter how you do it.

14

I agree with Chiada.

15

I LOVE the one you said you love. That's a great cut for you!

16

When I have 100+ updated blogs in my feeds, I usually just mark all read and start over again. But then I end up missing things, but I feel better about my life and less overwhelmed.

17

Um. I actually like the 'meh' one the best! LOL

(and should I mention that I get about 1500 per day in my reader?)

18

My new entries are mostly photos so don't let them stress you out. Also, tagged you so maybe it will give you something to write about. I have been feeling so crappy I haven't written anything in days. Gah.

Love your new virtual makeovers.

20

May love looks great!!

21

Hi - i'm kind of a lurker here, but i wanted to tell you that if your hair is already curly, the first one really wouldn't be such high-maintenance. Actually i think it would much lower maintenance than all of the straight ones. If you cut your hair that short (with lots o' layers), the curls will tighten up and all you will have to do in the morning after washing (or at least dampening your hair) is put in some goo and just dry it with a diffuser. and drying it might not even be necessary.
I say go for the first one. :)

22

!!!! HOW FUN !!!!!
Where do I find this software!!???????

I, too, love #4 although I'd do it a bit longer and not blow dry straight.

23

You can find the virutal makeover system HERE. Or, you guys can send me a pics of yourself and I will create new a new look for you. C'mon. You know you want to.)

24

Well, since they all look so, ahem, good, I have no idea which way to vote.

25

Ooooo make me over Jes! My pic is in Flickr at the top of mah blog....

PLEASE?

Feedreader....pah - I'm a skimmer and hardly ever comment anymore. I really suck.

Oh and as for your do? I LOVE you the way you are. Honestly.
xoxo

26

I used to wear my hair like the first "new" do... where you're wearing glasses. It's the easiest ever, because you just put 1 metric ton of product in your hair, scrunch, and let dry. Super cinch.

27

Brittney.
I vote Brittney.

bwahahahaha

28

4!

29

I think I'm in love with iVillage.
A bright spot in an otherwise truly boring, long day.

30

I just realized as I was looking at your future hairstyles, that I've had every one of them over my lifetime (except the bald one, even as a newborn I had a ton of hair). Not sure if that's good or not..ha! I really like # 4 on you and on a side note, I too, love to shop. Any excuse is plausible.

31

Um... did you take any photogs at the wedding? If so, why aren't they posted and if not, WHY THE H NOT!!!! :)

It was great seeing you and Roger there at the wedding. I love you both, you are quite dear to me. What I like best about you is that I am infinitely comfortable with you - you and Roger both are easy to be around.

32

Oh, and by the way, i was so focused on your hairdo that I didn't even notice that over-sized WOMBAT in your hands. WHAT IS THAT THING???
