On Marriage

May 22, 2007

If someone asked me today what my mission statement is as a wife, I would tell them it is to wholly love my husband, to support him, to encourage him. I want him to die (not yet) knowing that there was someone who adored him, who treasured him, who wanted nothing more than to see him succeed in his career, in his friendships, as a father, and as a spouse. Especially as a spouse.

I never knew when I was single that I would feel this way.

I never knew that one day when I married, I would leave the door open when I showered, or that it (mostly) wouldn't bother me if my husband walked in while I was peeing.

I’d always heard that you should marry your best friend, but my best friends had always been girls, and I certainly didn’t want to marry them. I never knew that a man could know me so well. So … perfectly.

I'm glad I've found one that can. And does. And will.

(Happy Anniversary, Roger.)

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY JES

Your wedding was beautiful. I love that picture. Happy anniversary. Mine is June 18, 19 years. I love my husband more than I thought possible. I'm having a blonde moment, we were at each others weddings, that is cool. But mine was 16 years before yours.

6

What a gorgeous picture (and such beautiful words to go along with them). Happy Anniversary!

7

Awww, that was a very sweet post. And such a beautiful picture! Happy Happy Anniversary to a wonderful couple. May you have many more happy years before you.

Sometimes when I get annoyed with my husband, I stop and think about all the things we have in common, how well we know eachother, how we are such good friends. And then I think about how fortunate I am to have him. Even through the bumpy times, we've prevailed and are now nearing 8 years. Eight! I can't believe it myself.

8

AWWWWW Happy Anniversary, you two.

9

WOW, I love that picture. You two are a gorgeous couple. Happy Anniversary and may there be many, many more.

Just lovely. Happy anniversary!

I've been meaning to tell you that I didn't think it was weird at all that you wanted to stop by my church on your way to Roti Grill. I'm glad you found it! In fact, let's plan a lunch.

22

What a fantastic mission statement ... makes me feel like I should be in the other room talking to my husband rather than reading up on blogs ... what a pickle to be in.

23

This post is so sweet. And that picture? I LOVE IT!!! It's gorgeous. If you haven't already, frame it and put it on every.single.wall in your apartment. Seriously.

27

Oh -- and happy anniversary! :)

28

I remember, when I first started reading your blog, your blog title was "Just Say Yes" and there was a picture of you and Roger on your wedding day. You must have changed it for your 1st anniversary or something. I was IN LOVE with your wedding picture and how wonderfully happy you looked and decided that I MUST read about this person's life. And so I did. :)

Happy anniversary, sweetie!!!

I just read this to my husband, who I will have been married to for one year on May 27th. I felt the need to delurk to comment that I know exactly how you feel...and wonder every day that I was able to find such an amazing friend and husband.

Love the pic, too! We have a similar one of my hubby kissing the top of my head. (We have a much bigger height difference than the two of you, I can see. *laughs*)
