That's Not Lazy. That's Just Gross.
February 06, 2007
This morning I flipped to my favorite radio show while driving to work, and the first thing I heard was a (male, of course, because no female would do this) caller saying ON AIR:
"Is it lazy that I reuse my bath water? On the first day I'll fill the tub a third full of water and take a bath. Then I leave the water in the tub, and the next day I add another third of hot water to warm the old bath water so I can bathe again."
I ask: Why not just drain the water each day and fill the tub one-third full of warm, clean water each day? You're not using any more water than you would otherwise. It just makes sense.

Why is it people do such odd things in the bathroom? I have tried for 5 years to get my wife to stop using the toilet as a waste basket for used kleenex post nose blow.

That is so nasty!

Why not just take a shower? Baths always leave me feeling sorta slimy - old bathwater would make that even worse.

That is sickening! I guess he probably doesn't clean his tub either!

That's just nasty! Leaving a tub full of germy, dirty water to incubate overnight? To say nothing of the ring that tub must have. Blech.

I totally heard this on my drive this morning! (Coincidentally enough, right as I was leaving my apartment, too. We left at the same time!)
I definitely think he's disgusting. No wonder girls leave his place without going in the bathroom! (I'm assuming you heard that part, too!)

MLIB: That's fun - we DID leave at the same time! :)
Yes, I heard about girls who wouldn't go to the restroom in his house. I WOULDN'T EITHER!

Your suggestion makes complete sense. I don't see the point in reusing the bath water. WEIRDO.

I don't think a bath with fresh water gets you all that clean...can't imagine one with used water...EW.
How about peeing in the shower? How many people do that? I took a poll at work and it was 50/50. And I only asked the women.

What the fuh?
But then...I pee in the shower sometimes. I've been wanting to write about that but I don't know.

I HEARD THE SAME THING and quickly thought Ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww

WTF? What on earth is the point???? He's not saving time or water! Gross gross gross!

hearing things like reusing bathwater always makes me think of the Great Depression. I imagine people reusing things (exactly how many cups of tea can one teabag make?) and stashing twenties under their mattress. I don't think that there's any point to reusing bathwater in this day and age. We have great filtration systems and water heaters. But hey, the guy's taking a bath. Every day. I'm just happy to hear that...

PS: in a crazy way, I'm jealous of his bath-stopper. Mine wouldn't hold a tub full of water for days on end. I've never tried, but I think I'd be lucky to come back 2 hours after running a tub and have more than half the water yet.

Dirty bathwater makes my skin crawl. Yuck.
(Happy! clean bathwater Tuesday to you.) ; )

That just reminds me of when you leave gravy or soup and it gets that gross film on top that you have to skim off.

Bleh. I already can't take baths due to the fact that two males lived here before me. But now I'm practically ill with the thought of dirty bathwater.

I've seen the water that comes off two children who I love more than anything in the world. It makes me want to not even be alive anymore. I can't imagine making them use it again the next day--diluted or not! And I certainly wouldn't use my own water again. Ugh.
PS) Heather B? I am not following you around the Internet, I promise. I think I just posted after you at Friday Playdate!
