Overheard in Dallas, Texas

January 29, 2007

"Citrus is good to put down the drain. It's like giving mouthwash to the garbage disposal."

Hmmm, is it really?

2

Haha, well I guess if your garburator suffers from halitosis...

3

Texans are clearly very clever, practical people. Who buy the orange Listerine, unlike the rest of the world.

4

Hee. My DH is a plumber and lord the fights we have over what can go in the disposal. Honest, I don't know why he even installed the thing? Eggshells and vegetable skins are apparently the worse? Who Knew?

5

It's true. When your disposal starts smelling like something crawled down there and died in it's own feces, you're supposed to put lemon down it to keep the smell at bay.

6

Is true! Lemon and ice cubes is best. Just so you know.

Although - that is a damn funny way to put it.

7

I hate my garbage disposal. And my dishwasher. And all my appliances. Because they hate me. And it's not fair.

8

Run! I think that's code for "nuclear war is imminent".

9

It actually is true. It also helps to eat away at the "gunk" that collects down there and can get dried up which can then lead to the shredder inside to get stuck. It's all gross though.

I use lemon in my dispoal too. It loves it I think.

I've heard orange peels are good. I've done it a few times, and it totally works.

But I can believe the lemons and ice cubes thing, too. When I was a server, we put lemons, ice cubes and salt, I think (or was it sugar?) in the coffee pots and swirled them around until the ice started melting. The mix totally took the stains off the coffee pots.
