The Emerald City

October 20, 2006

This weekend Roger and I are visiting Seattle, Washington. If you have any last-minute pieces of advice for us, like maybe what to do or where to go, let us know - we'll be checking email and comments all weekend long. If you don't have any last-minute assertions, I totally think you're lying because who in the world doesn't have opinions? Especially about travel? And places to go? EVEN IF YOU'VE NEVER BEEN THERE BEFORE?

I personally try to give my opinion as often as possible. And if I've never been there before? I make something up. Or repeat something I've heard someone else say. But I rephrase it to make it sound a little different. And I also pretend I didn't just hear that other person say it. But mostly, I research. I looovvveee to research new places.

I've been agonizing for the past week over what to wear. Will it be too cold for my precious skin? Because when I was packing, I discovered that somehow 75% of my sweaters have mysteriously ended up in the dryer since last winter. Which means they're much, much too small for me now.

And I refuse to admit that I had anything to do with it. (See: clothes dryer.) (Also see: my inability to properly follow laundering instructions that are sewn into my clothes for that very reason.) (Also see: me rolling my eyes.)

So. Suggestions? Ideas? Seattle, anyone?

There is the MOST amazing coffee shop on the corner of Broadway and 4th. You MUST go!!! Order the Orange-Creme Mocha - it sounds weird, but trust me it is DELISH! And if Matt is working, punch him in the arm and say it's from me - he'll understand.

(ok, ya, so I made that up - I've never been to Seattle... and all I know about it is the traffic is bad because there are no places to build freeways - something about there being too much water.)

I got nothin for you. But have fun anyway.

Dude. Haven't been there, but SPACE NEEDLE.

3

Um, I've never been, but whenever I go to a new city, I look forward to the
FOOD! You must let me know about the restaurants.
And have fun, Jes!

4

I've never been and don't know much about it, but so glad that you get to go!

You just can't move there, it's FAR!

5

Another comment from someone who has never been there: Go see the giant troll under a bridge!

Duder, I've never been there, but if I were you, I'd sooo go to Seattle Grace Hospital and stalk McDreamy. Oh, oops, except I'm married. And, er, McDreamy might be fictional. But you can hang out with my friends Izzy and George and Meredith and...oh, wait. Still fictional.

Sorry.

The Space Needle, Experience Music Project, Pike Place Market. There's a great french restaurant on a cobbled side street to the left of the main entrance for Pike Place Market. If you like video games, there's a huge arcade. Great food, tons of shopping, beautiful. The traffic does suck but downtown is cool.

Have tons of fun!!

Well, at least in Seattle you should be able to find a Starbucks. That is where I would go if I was there because it is like McDonalds and it is the same everywhere you go and I would want to see if my coffee was the same there as it is here.

Then I would look for a magical pegasus that would fly me to the top of the space needle and over the entire city so I could really get a nice view of things. This particular pegasus would shoot stars out of it's butt as it was rocketing you about for added coolness.

If you do happen to find a magical pegasus let me know and I will move to Seattle too.

The only travel advice I have is DO NOT put a 1/2 used tube of 5oz. toothpaste in your carry-on because the Tee Ess Aye stooge can't do fractional math and thus you will be personally violated for trying to smuggle more than your alloted amount of Crest on a US flag carrier.

10

Go visit Bill Gates. I hear he has an intelligent bathroom. I so wanna see that.

What I loved about Seattle was the view of Mt Ranier from the residential area. When it isn't raining. So totally, go to Mt Ranier. Even if it's raining.

I am late! But Ivar's on the Pier. If you like seafood at all, that is. : ) Have fun!
