An Experiment of Sorts

October 15, 2006

Two weeks ago I learned that my employer planned to install special software that will prevent employees from accessing certain websites from work. Among those websites, social networking (examples: blogging platforms, Myspace, Flickr) will be prohibited.

That installation occurred this weekend.

When I arrive at work tomorrow morning, I will undoubtedly begin testing my boundaries; I want to know just how short of a leash I've got wrapped around my neck. Like a noose. Which is how I'll feel without being able to feed my pet addiction.

I know, I know: I'm hyperventilating already.

Yes, I have this problem, too. Try (at home) the BoingBoing link for "defeat censorware." They have some hints.

Also, you can read blogs via email by using feedblitz - you set up feeds and they send you a daily email roundup. No photos, but whatever.

I can read blogs via a supersecret backdoor, though I can't post or see flickr photos. Email me and I will let you know.

I still get myspace at work... hahahaha
no e-mail though... =0)

3

Well, that's communist, that's what that is. And frightening. That just sucks.

4

I can see most blogs from work, but occasionally there will be a blocked one. I hate when the little "THIS HAS BEEN BLOCKED" pictures comes up because it makes me feel dirty. =)

5

When I was blocked from myspace and such from work for awhile (and then the block weirdly went away suddenly) my friend told me to use vtunnel.com. Its what he uses to get to myspace when he is bored on duty in the Navy. It works.

6

What? Blogging blocked? Say it ain't so! How will you survive? How will the internet survive without you?

This is the beginning of the end... or something else just as ominous.

7

WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT!?

My company put the kibosh on mysapce a while back... remeber my Black Tuesday post?? I thought I'd die.

But we still have Flickr and Blogger and whatnot thank goodness. Seriously don't know what I'd do without them!!!

In fact, I should sign off in case they are watching...

8

GAUGH!!!!!! No more frequent postings by Jes at work?!?!?

Yeah, I have to watch my time spent on blogspot at work too. No more days of all day rap-offs anymore. *sigh*

9

That SUCKS!!! I'm lucky... thus far my employer hasn't locked down my Interent access. And Thank god for that... I do my best posting when I should be working, LOL!!

Here's hoping your lease isn't that short!

10

Oh nooooooooooo! Yet another reason to be thankful that I work from home!

11

Wow ... that sucks. I don't know what I'd do if I couldn't check those things from time to time. Sometimes, you just need a mental break! And what about while you're eating lunch (like I'm doing right now)?
