Redefining questionable blogging subjects: Take One
August 16, 2006
I've been disillusioned with the Internet lately. I am bored with my routine. Everyday I check email, and then check my other email account, and then I check my other email account. I monitor my Travian accounts. (How much of a nerd does this make me?) I open a blank Word document and stare at the blinking cursor, purse my lips, and think.
I look at my blank wall, hoping it will inspire me. Nothing.
Of course, this hasn't stopped me from dreaming up new ideas for new websites and what I would write on the imaginary websites. It hasn't even stopped me from spending hours creating and narrowing down domain names for the imaginary websites. And admittedly, it hasn't stopped me from buying those domain names.
I am now the proud owner of several domain names that I can't remember, and three that I can remember. Kris, please don't email me to tell me how many I really have. Let's keep it a secret. That way, I feel less guilty for buying domains when there are starving children who need my money more than the Internet does.
Even though I maintain chirky.com, and even though I write a career blog for JobsInThaCity.com, I have somehow convinced myself that I still have time to write other blogs. And to have a full time job. And to volunteer. And to attend two different weekly meetings for two different groups in the Dallas area.
You'd think that with all this busyness, I'd have more to write about. For example: that Homeless Man two days ago who stood on the side of the street, ten feet from my car, and whipped out his goodies to pee on the ground. IN DOWNTOWN DALLAS. DURING RUSH HOUR. It was wildly funny to me, and I regretted at that moment that I don't have a camera phone.
I am sure that you don't regret that I don’t have a camera phone, or else I would have subjected you to blurred, out of kilter images of the dirty drawers and whimsical peeing. And perhaps that's just not acceptable blogging fodder.
Technorati: internet, blogging, Dallas, writing, homeless, taboo

I feel the same way every time I hit "Add to Bookmarks." I find something good, and I want to read it but when am I going to be doing that? When is someone going to pay me to read blogs all day?
And I saw a man today in my parking lot changing his pants, all he had on were his tighty whiteys.

I so know what you mean! I've become a blogging fool at work, and trying to get me boss into the game to. I run one blog at work, and just bought the domain to start up another one... I maintain my own blog, a writers blog, a sushi blog (that doesn't get maintained very much) and just started another one to post events for a local writers group (sandiegowriters.org) AND contribute to a community blog, sandiegoblog.com. And now I've found all kinds of cool blogs, like this one, to read... Oh, and I'm trying to write a book to. crazy.

I'm so glad to know that I'm not the only one who has 900 billion email accounts.
Oh! And I can totally relate to the need for a camera phone. Initially, I was against them...you know...on "principal" or something. However, there are just way too many missed photo-blog opportunities out there, and I've come to realize that I'm part of the problem, not the solution. So, just as soon as I can afford it, I'm planning on obtaining one...

Oh but I got the phone call to describe the "whimsical peeing" and that was almost as
goodeffective as a photograph, especially with all the laughing and giggling and high pitch tone of your voice because you were in utter disbelief of what had just occured.Posted by: Katie, the original | August 17, 2006 08:35 AM
Ha - whimsical peeing! Am I a sick, sick person for wishing you indeed had a camera phone on ya? Travian...I have never heard of such a thing, but after a quick peruse of the link you added, I'm intrigued!

Oh, and as for the missed photo op... that is preceisly why I carry my tiny canon with me AT ALL TIMES!!! I consider it more important than my cell phone. (well mostly my cell phone is a piece of crap, so tha's not saying too much... but whatever.)

Domains are addictive. They are like freakin heroin to me. I've only recently dropped down into the double digits for a total count.....but not by much. Must go buy more now....argghhhhh~!

So I'm guessing you don't sleep much then? There's no way to play MMOGs AND sleep.
I just bought my domain, and my hosting site gave me 2500 email accounts. Wheee!! I'm thinking the next time I register for a workshop at Home Depot or subscribe to a magazine, I'll use ParisHilton@table4five.net as my email address.

I've been noticing that a lot lately--and feeling it a lot. It seems so often like everyone else in blog-land has an inexhaustible supply of fun blogging topics and the talent to pull them off perfectly.
Oh, and I'm angry at you for posting the link to Travanian or whatever it is. I am fighting very, very hard not to go back and inspect the link further because it looks kind of interesting, and I do NOTNOTNOT have time for that. Does that make me a nerd too?
