BlogHer '06: Final Thoughts

August 02, 2006

Attending the BlogHer workshops confirmed to me that what I’m doing at work, while I enjoy it, is not my passion. My passion is writing and connecting with others – building a community where people can meet and share their lives. I’ve always known that my talents center around hospitality. I think blog communities are a great way for me to exercise that talent.

I have several ideas storming for new community websites, but am overwhelmed by my own ambition.

Several of you have asked me who I met at . My answer? Everyone. Almost. There is no way I could ever give a recap of my thoughts on the people I did meet (but Miss Zoot did an excellent job of doing just that) - there were too many to name.

I met women whom I admire. I met women who made me laugh. I met women who are brilliant. I met women that I wished I had taken longer to talk with.

I learned a lot from the different sessions that were held on Day One and Day Two. But more than anything, I learned so much about myself. And perhaps that is the best thing that I could have taken from the conference.

here's hoping that one day soon your "work" and your "passion" will converge into the same thing (with walls, of course, and a window)

2

p.s. it's about time somebody else told you that you are "damn pretty" although I don't think I add the damn all that often, but you are . . . pretty that is, not damn or damned

wheeee i like to read about my friend on other people's blogs, it's like I know a famous blogger

Jes of Just Say Jes, oh yeah I know her, we lived together, TWICE, and I think I've committed a few crimes with her, minor ones of course, but crimes non the less, that bonds a person, crime committing, and ice cream, at least that bonds women, so if jes and i committed crimes while eating ice cream it would be like we were siamese twins and oh well I'm not sure where I'm going with this, oh yeah I know Jes and she is famous and pretty, "damn pretty" in fact

It's pretty rare, I find, for people's livelihood and passion to be one and the same. They only pay people to do the stuff no one's willing to volunteer to do.

Depressing, but then, I'm a Murphyist.

4

That's it?

I still have no idea what goes on in these cultferences!

I WANTED you to list names and impressions and tell me some inside dirt!! CRIMINY! I need more details and you are witholding them from me!

5

This recap is one of the best, as it's concise, focused and action-oriented! Huzzah!

I noticed that after the conference I've started talking about my blog to more people and without fear or shame or anything. You write about passion -- some of the people I talk to are using that word with me; they can tell that I am passionate about blogging and what it's done for me and what I've accomplished because of it.

I hope you can merge your passion into your professional life some day! Just think of what you could do...
