At the risk of sounding like June Cleaver, hovering over our home's single wooden radio, which is perched atop our breakfast table:

Late Friday night, I listened to a girl call a nationally syndicated radio program because it was her 21st birthday. She announced to THE ENTIRE NATION that her 21st birthday goal was to have a one-night stand.

Roger and I looked at each other like, "Did she really just say that on the radio?" And then I thought, "I wonder how many guys are going to be calling the radio now, trying to get her number?" And now I'm wondering, "Was she successful?"

I began thinking about the human heart, and thought I would open my comments section as a soundboard today. What do you think?

It's kind of sad if you ask me. To me it is a sign of loneliness that someone would be willing to have the goal of a one night stand.

makes me think of how we express our freedom . . . this was a milestone in her life, a moment of achievement and freedom, and this was her goal

I thought that you were supposed to strive towards achieving drunken oblivion (legally) on your 21st birthday - not meaningless sex with a stranger.

What an interesting concept - I never thought that drinking-to-get-drunk could ever sound like the better (and healthier/less risky) of any two options. I mean, it really isn’t because drinking can lead to the other anyway, but I didn’t think that people actually set out to accomplish something like that (much less to celebrate a birthday).

Hmmmm…to each their own?!

My first thought was along the lines of Ben's. How incredibly sad, lonely, and headed for heartbreak.

Where the heck is my soap box? Oh, here it is...

I watch a lot of MTV and it is PLAIN to see that kids these days have no moral compass. American children have been taught nothing about what is right and what is wrong. Our society views the 10 commandments as archaic and our boundaries are limited to what affects us physically - like AIDS, herpes, jail, getting fat, etc. We have become hollow beings that walk around this earth without a conscience. We think only about ourselves and how we can get ahead.

I realize that my view here might be cynical, but I think it is realistic and representative of our society.

We reward bad behaviour. We admire corruption. We applaud ignorance.

God Bless America.
