This weekend I went to the lake and got to play around with my nephew all day long. Everytime I am around him, I just want to hug him and squeeze him and put him in my pocket to carry around with me. Sometimes I even go as far as to think that I want kids of my own, Right Now! No pregnancy or childbirth or adoption process - I command my future children to Appear!
But they don't, and so I'll settle for Chase. And, heeheehee, my sister-in-law is pregnant, and I TOTALLY think she is having a boy. So then it will be like I have two children!

The good part about babysitting and playing with my nephew is that he is absolutely delightful, and I get to play with him and adore him and then I give him back. No attitude! No temper tantrums! To me, it is the perfect way to have children.

Except this weekend, when we were at the grocery store, he tripped over the back of my foot, and Splat! He face-planted into the concrete floor. And cried. And I felt so bad because it was MY foot! I'm sorry, Chase. Several years from now, when you know how to read, you'll know that I just have big feet and that I didn't mean to trip you. Until then, we'll let you cry.

Nearly the entire day, Chase entertained himself by throwing various objects in the lake: twigs, rocks, clay dirt, tree trunks. You know, whatever he could find. And after he threw it in, he would watch the splash it made and exclaim, "Big splash!" And run to get another rock to do it all over again. And watching him, I thought that maybe my chest cavity would burst open and that little butterflies would float away.

And, sidenote, we saw a BEAVER. Swimming! In the lake!
Incidentally, when I have children, I hope I have a boy. And I hope he's like Chase.

Jubal - I laughed out loud at the comment. I think K-T's said that once before on a comment and I thought it was her b/c I hadn't scrolled down to who posted the comment and so I saw it was you and not K-T. And I laughed out loud.
Jes - I thought you were going to apologize to him not for him tripping over your feet, but for taking a picture of him in his distress. Poor little guy! Double whammy!

Steve's comment made me laugh, too.
No, I wouldn't apologize for taking the picture. I specifically brought my camera in just in case something interesting happened. And because I'm OCD.

i was wondering if it was roger who said he felt "mushy" around him, because I don't think I have ever heard roger use the word "mushy" especially in relation to children

He is adorable! That's how I feel about my nieces and nephew, too - I can play with them and enjoy them, and then I can give them back. Of course, it means that I can't have them whenever I want, but it also means I enjoy it more when I do have them.
