OTB, Obsessions

May 06, 2005

Some of you, namely Bianca, are aware of my recent obsession with On the Border's strawberry margaritas. Bianca is aware of it only because when we go out to eat I finagle my way to a strip of restaurants and suddenly realize: "Oh, my! There's an On the Border! Let's eat there!"

Bianca, of course, rolls her eyes and scoffs at me, because she knows EXACTLY WHY I WANT TO GO THERE. I realize this makes me sound like an alcoholic, but I'm not. I rarely drink. Except when I go to OTB.

Other strawberry margaritas, for example those at Humperdinks, don't compare. They taste too much like tequila, or whatever liquor is used in a margarita. See? I don't even know what liquor is used in a margarita! This proves that I am not an alcoholic. Or, at least that I have never bartended.

I don't like margaritas for these reasons:

1. tequila
2. salt-rimmed glasses
3. tequila

All I know about tequila is that there is a worm in the bottle. I think that people who drink liquid that is fermenting a worm are nasty. Likewise, I also think that Humperdinks margaritas are nasty, because they taste like worm-infested liquor and minimal strawberry syrup. And people, I need MAXIMUM strawberry syrup.

I don't like salt-rimmed glasses because WHO WANTS TO TASTE SALT WHEN THEY ARE TRYING TO TASTE THE DELICIOUS, SWEET STRAWBERRIES? Plus, my dad has always called me "sugar lips" because I love nearly anything sweet. Some people prefer salty things, like potato chips or french fries. I prefer sweet things, like sugar and fruit and candy and more sugar.

OTB, The Master of All Things Margarita-Related, is therefore my downfall. I cannot taste the worm-infested tequila, because OTB uses SO MANY strawberries! Or at least, so much strawberry syrup. Also, they RIM THEIR GLASSES IN SUGAR. Who can resist licking it off? I purposefully drink from a different place on the glass, working my way around the rim, SO I CAN EAT ALL THE SUGAR.

This is why I suggested to Melissa and Diana (friends and former co-workers) that we eat at On The Border tomorrow. Because it's all about me. And the margaritas.

Wish I could meet you. I love margaritas and Mexican food and don't get enough of either here in the mountains of NC. For my birthday last year, my mom took my sisters and me to NYC, and I chose Rosa Mexicana for my birthday dinner just because they have these huge pomegrante margaritas with sugar-rimmed glasses. I'm drooling just thinking about it. Have fun!

Sugar rimmed and no tequila taste? Are you sure they aren't passing off a virgin Strawberry Daiquiri on you?

Eddo's mama: REALLY, I'm not an alcoholic. i just like the OTB margaritas, which, might i add, is quite a feat because i don't like margaritas. mostly because of the wormy tequila taste.

OD: are you near an OTB? if so, go. soon. get one, and see for yourself. they very well could be passing a virgin drink on me, and i wouldn't know the difference. it sure is good though! :)

I too have an obsession with OTB. Only it's with their food. I rarely get margaritas there or anywhere. I also don't like tequila. But I may have try one of their margaritas next time I go. Also, some places rim their martini glasses with sugar when you order a Cosmo. And it's oh so yummy.

Jes - as a tequila fantic, I guess somebody needs to tell you sooner or later, that most tequila, especially the kind you'd get in a place like that, does not have a worm in it... :)

As I recall from my Waitress/Bartender days, Strawberry Margarita should get Sugar....Maybe I was doing it wrong???? I like Tequila and strong Chambord Meltdown Margaritas...Bad hangover though cause 1) Tequila is ALWAYS a bad hangover and 2) Chambord is very sweet...These hangovers are not for the faint of heart...or stomach.

Tequila is N-A-S-T-Y. I don't care how expensive the bottle. Worm or no worm.

However, if Jes is also anti-tequila but enjoys a OTB strawberry margarita for the very fact she cannot taste the tequila..I shall have to investigate this claim further.

Oh how i LOVE on the border! If you sign up for their club cantina online they send you coupons! :-)

Strawberry margaritas require sugar rims, but regular and sangria swirl require salt rims!

Mmmm margaritas! My favorites are the sangria swirl at Uncle Julios!
