NyQuil overdose

December 17, 2004

Today I got a flu shot. I waited in line for 40 minutes for a shot that took one minute. Oh, wait. Except for the nurse's cell phone ringing before she gave me a shot, WHICH SHE ANSWERED while holding my needle. And then there was the fact that she didn't change her "sterile" glove after the person preceding me. (At least she changed the needle.)

Other than that, my day is going fine. I slept 7 out of a possible 12 hours last night. If you're interested, here's a recap of my night:

7:09pm: Drink 2 capfuls of NyQuil, Go to bed
10:40pm: Wake up. Drink one capful of NyQuil, take 3 Tylenol PMs
12:39am (approx): Finally fall back asleep.
3:42am: Wake up. Take another (nearly overflowing) capful of NyQuil.
4:10am (approx): Fall back asleep, AGAIN.
5:49am: Wake up. Wonder if it's too late in the morning to take more NyQuil. Decide just to lay in bed for a while.
7:00am: Finally get up, after laying in bed for a while.

When I woke in the morning, I discovered that I had consumed half the bottle of NyQuil in one night.

But, I did squeeze in seven hours of sleep, which is almost more than I slept the past two nights combined, so I'm not complaining.

Are you allowed to get a flu shot when you're already sick? Fun times! At least that will hopefully prevent future sickness. Amazing you were able to wake up this morning after all that Nyquil and Tylenol PM - I probably would have been in a coma! Be careful and hope you get to feeling better!

Umm, yeah I think you totally went over the recomended dosage. How on earth could you see straight to drive to work this morning?
Ease up on the sleepy meds trigger. When your tired enough your body will let you sleep. It sucks, I know, but taking that much medicine is no good.

Hello, my name is Amanda, and I am a recovering NyQuil addict.

The one and only time I've ever been that hopped up on NyQuil was.........on my honeymoon. Yep, I planned the perfect wedding, it went off without a hitch, I left on my honeymoon, and promptly got sick. The sad part is, you can SEE the NyQuil bottle in the background of several of our honeymoon pictures. It took me a while to come back down off the NyQuil high. I'm here to support you. Are you planning on going cold turkey? ;)

Hello, Amanda.

Yes, I have planned on going cold turkey. Already I've got the Shakes. And a terrible headache. Even in the face of temptation, when my husband offered at 5:50am this morning that I take some NyQuil, I had the courage to say no.

Thank you for your support.

The worst is not being able to sleep when you're sick.
I can never sleep, I have been an insomniac since I was 9. No sleeping pills work for me. I take doses that would knock down a horse and still nothing. My husband is quite alarmed, and he sleeps like an angel, as soon as his head hits the pillow.
Damn him!

Hope you're feeling better, come back and visit sometime soon,
J

Jes- I hope you get to feeling better!

Once while at the Oral Surgeon getting my wisdom teeth extracted, the nurse tried to use one hand and the lip of a tray to replace the cap of a needle that she just removed from my arm. The cap slipped and the needle went flying across the room. Fortunately, no one else was in the room or I am sure it would have hit them! of course, I have no life threatening diseases, but how careless was that nurse! She just sort of giggled it away like it happened all the time.

She also had to stick me 7 SEVEN 7 times in order to find a vein, eventually they used the vein that is on the top-inside of the wrist! OUCH! And people wonder why I don't give blood.

Eddie. I'm sad for you! That would FREAK ME OUT if that happened to me. I would even go so far as to blog about it. ;)

Dear Jes, how I hope I can help you fall asleep faster! Just as how I hope to my boyfriend! He has the same problem as you do, and he always wearing his eyemask and earplug no matter how dark and quiet it is! Even a tiny voice will wake him up at night and then a long time to stay awake. Though I never had such a problem, I definitely know how people feel bad when they are like that, I am also trying to ask my dear dad's advice since he knows some about those ancient chinese way of curing/solving such kind of problems. He keeps doing things like foot massage/ear massage/healthy cooking for us, my mom and my brother and I, and himself-- my dear dad, he is our best private doctor for our family---and I think that's really good. Let me see what I can learn, I feel shamed in fact, since I enjoyed those things for years and I never try to learn how to do it myself! and how to do it back to my dear dad! :( I will try, I promise!~~~:)
